A Little Stenciled Bench for my “Mud Porch” …yup that’s “Mud Porch” since I don’t have a “Mud Room”

Stenciled bench

Well its Spring fever time again and I have been busy working in my garden, amending the soil with compost, planning, planting and sowing seeds then there’s that dang spring cleaning but before I could get started I hurt my back which put me out of commission for about three weeks! UGH! I was begging for mercy, If you have ever had a back injury you know what I mean. It’s amazing how one simple movement can put you down just like that!  And suddenly you feel like you aged 40 years, it can be crippling and eye opening! I am so grateful for my health and the awful pain reminded me of  how I should not take it for granted.  I don’t know what I would do if I could no longer play with my grandchildren, work in my garden or finish the work on this beautiful home, which reminds me, now that I have my garden planted I need to concentrate on getting all that trim done for the living room. With so much to do I did not have a clue on what my next post should be, then I remembered I had this little bench I painted and stenciled towards the end of  last summer and I had never shared it with you. So without further ado.

I was feeling a little crafty and inspired by all I had seen in Blogland and Pinterest like this Awesome Paisley Stenciled Table by Ashley@Domestic Imperfection and this Very Creative and Rustic Painted Wooden Crate Stairs by Donna@Funky Junk Interiors, this Very Cool Stenciled Subfloor by Sherry and John @Young House Love. and this Sweet Stenciled Napkin made into a Pillow by Angie@Knick of Time Interiors. Please click on these links and check them out you won’t regret it.

We have this awful ugly handmade bench that was here in our kitchen when we purchased our home. Functional but no Beauty! I have hoarded it all this time, I just liked it and could not let go. It did come in handy many a time as a step stool.

DSC01882gsrpixlr We often are in need of extra seating around here and I knew she would come in handy but it just needed some love and it was past time to give her some. I found this sweet  “Queen Bee” stencil at Artistic Stencil Designs.com and this “scrolly”  stencil design by Martha Stewart I had picked up at Home Depot months ago. So I thought I’d give it a go.

DSC01886gsr But first I had to do some small repairs, she was a little rickety so I glued and screwed the legs to sturdy her up.

DSC01898gsr Next, I primed, painted and sanded a little to distress, as  if she wasn’t distressed enough. Next I stenciled a scrolly thing in each corner

DSC01912gsr Then I centered and stenciled the Queen Bee on the seat

Queen Bee Stencil

DSC01914gsr I was having fun so then I decided to dress up her legs and her undercarriage

DSC01925gsr I just couldn’t stop, I was a stenciling fool! I had to add a few more scrolly things to the seat!

Stenciled bench Our garden is located  in front of our home so everyday I go out the front door and head over to water and tend to it, it’s usually damp and dewy so I slip on my garden rain boots.I store my boots out on the porch and now I have a sweet seat to sit on while I slip them off and on.

Stenciled bench What do you think?  Just goes to show you, never underestimate an awful ugly anything cuz …a little paint and a creative stencil and now she’s  Functional and a Beauty! I love it and it is perfect extra seating when entertaining on our front porch!

It’s Spook! He’s our Big, Fluffy, Fat, Kitty and he has always claimed the front porch, the other kitties are not allowed.
